What happened to bury this 1950 VW 213 van will always be a mystery, but someone with a shovel and determination is restoring it!

I think the word BURIED describes it accurately

full gallery and story : http://www.ssvc.org.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=35155 thanks to Chris who read all the 61 pages of thread, and summarized the story for us

how the bus got buried:
In a nutshell, a guy had his kid bury it in the late ’50s or early ’60s so they could have a hunting shack in the woods. The guy who found it also found the ‘kid’ who buried it, only now the kid is an old man. The restorer is English but on a run through northern Europe ( Sweden ?) he stopped by and showed the bus off to the guy who buried it. It was good timing, too; the guy who buried it died recently.
The current owner also took it to the site where the lumber mill stood that owned it first. He then took it to Kempes. The current owners didn’t know anything about the bus but they were pretty thrilled that the current owner came by with it to tell the story. The employees gave him some older (but not period) Kempes coveralls and goodies.

1957 Deluxe VW 23 window bus pulled from a lake in Norway after 36 years submerged... Is it this hard for people to find a VW Deluxe bus?

And here is a photo from before it went into the water in 1973 because the transmission broke, it was the fastest easiest way to get rid of the bus.
Thanks to Gary for the link to the story!

Is this a good photoshop swap? Or a 2nd photo from a good photographer? It's a photoshopped VW over the Stang

AJ scoped it out, and noticed that the bug is not completely hiding the Mustang's front fender
Same exact setting as the bottom photo, and the Mustang is smaller than the VW so it's possible that the vw is photoshopped over the stang

This VW was photographed by Iris Antonio according to the sources of the photo I've found .. but like AJ pointed out, the but is a clever photoshop that didn't quite mask the Mustang

Thanks AJ! "The mustang fender top is still visible in the VW "photo".

there is integral coolness in VW's... but it takes some work to make it show

One wheel trailer... the "Trailcar" by Allstate (division of Sears)

The above photo is thanks to Nik (who finds cool photos all the time) check out his blog at http://carrosantigos.wordpress.com/

I never know where or when I will find something unusual or interesting, something I've never seen before... like a one wheel trailer. They are in demand by VW people I was told by this new owner, he'd just got if off ebay

That the wood and plate are in such amazing great original condition is astonishing, the major frame piece has been repainted, but the wood wasn't touched

The reason this doesn't fall over (like a person on a unicycle) is the from cross member that is bracing the side to side load ( it's the black part at the bottom of the photo below

The advert is from a JC Whitney like catalog that Randy let me scan, Warshawsky's http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/search/label/Warshawsky

Intriguing variety of cool photographs on Le Container

Above, the Purple People Eater

Awesome photo, going vertical just a split second after lifting off the ground, that is power

Look close at the wheel hub and you'll see that the above is a VW

Clever use of wheels!

The above are just models

The things that caught my eye at Wavecrest 2010 (biggest woody car show on the Pacific coast)

I saw the multicolored background and shifted focus as interesting as photo composition and contrast

great hood prop idea, only for a woody

That is a whole lotta car

The clean and shiny paint on the dash in contrast to the chrome make a good impression

That is some beautiful chrome on the above hood ornament

I've never noticed the Plymouth ship design on a taillight before

I don't recall seeing a VW woody before... this one looks cool!

Beautiful multicolor flames

A new and unusual way to pattern the wood on the sides and back
